At Hammermill®, we use sustainably sourced wood fiber to produce our paper. We help replenish forests by supporting sustainable forestry management and practices. You can help support forests by purchasing paper that has been sourced from sustainably managed growth forests. Take a look at our video below and learn how to shop for sustainably sourced paper

Look for Logos

It's important to make sure the paper you buy is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® or the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®. These certification logos indicate that the paper is made with fiber from a third-party-verified sustainably managed forest. The logos can only be used by companies that are committed to responsible forestry. If you don't see the logo, don't trust the paper.

Recycled Paper

You may be wondering if paper with recycled content is more sustainable than paper without. There are pros and cons for each. The more recycled paper you buy, the higher the demand, which leads to more recycling programs, which means less waste, but if all paper were made from recycled content, then the supply of recycled fiber would only last seven months. Paper can only be recycled five to seven times before the fibers break down, and using only recycled paper doesn't promote sustainable forest management.

Using paper keeps our forests growing by giving landowners a reason to keep their forests as forests through a continuous cycle of planting and harvesting trees. Forest landowners in the U.S. plant about three million trees every day. So here's the bottom line: It's best to use both recycled and non-recycled papers.
