Celebrate Earth Day Year Round

Our planet has always provided us with the resources we need to sustain our civilization, including the trees we use to make paper. It’s why we only source our paper from sustainably managed working forests. And why we make it a point to celebrate Earth Day every year.

A little Earth Day history

The first Earth Day, which occurred on April 22, 1970, was the official start of the environmental movement in the U.S. Created by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin, that first Earth Day inspired 20 million Americans to show up in streets and parks to demonstrate their concern for the future of our planet. It’s no coincidence that later that year, in December of 1970, President Nixon established the Environmental Protection Agency.

Twenty years later, in 1990, Earth Day went international. That year, 200 million people in 141 countries shined a global spotlight on environmental issues like recycling. That same year, President Clinton awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Senator Nelson, recognizing his vital contribution to the environmental movement as the founder of Earth Day.

Ways you can celebrate Earth Day

Gradually, the entire month of April has become known as Earth Month, a time for everyone on the planet to think about how we can preserve Earth’s beauty, maintain its health, and live more sustainably.

Easy ways to celebrate Earth Day (or Earth Month) include picking up litter, planting a tree, donating to an environmental cause you care about, or starting a backyard vegetable garden. Bigger commitments include walking or biking instead of driving for short trips, installing solar panels, eating less meat, or reducing your overall consumption of goods. The important thing is to make an effort.

Use Paper Made Right™ for our planet

Of course, if you’re looking for a feel-good, earth-friendly choice you can make year round, simply choose Hammermill® for all of your paper needs. All of our paper is sourced from sustainably managed working forests, most of which are privately owned. Why is that important?

By harvesting and regrowing their trees in an ever-repeatable cycle, these private owners benefit from a sustainable source of revenue. Without it, they might sell their land, and the forests would be lost forever. Long story short, by purchasing Hammermill paper, you help to preserve the very forests that our paper comes from. We’re pretty confident that our earth appreciates that.
